Conversations Matter: A Parent’s Guide to Talking About Sleep
Based on Episode 9: “Good Night”
Use these four questions to help your child understand the importance of quality sleep and how their habits—especially around screens and gaming—may be affecting their body, mind, and mood.
1. “Have you ever stayed up too late playing games or watching videos? How did you feel the next day?”
Purpose: Helps your child connect lack of sleep to real consequences—like mood swings, poor focus, or low energy—making it personal and relatable.
2. “Why do you think falling asleep can be harder when you’re on your phone or gaming right before bed?”
Purpose: Builds awareness of how screen time and stimulation interfere with the body’s natural sleep rhythms, like melatonin production.
3. “What are some things that might help you wind down and get better sleep—especially on school nights?”
Purpose: Encourages your child to develop their own sleep routine and creates space to explore healthy alternatives to late-night screen use.
4. “Why do you think sleep is important for not just school and sports—but gaming, too?”
Purpose: Helps link sleep to things your child already values (like better reaction time and focus) and promotes it as a tool for overall performance.
Remember:
Sleep isn’t just rest—it’s recovery, focus, and fuel for a strong mind and body. When kids learn to prioritize good sleep, they become more balanced, more resilient, and more capable of thriving both online and offline. Because in the end, Conversations Matter.
